Welcome to Year 1
Please remember that your child will bring a book home on a Tuesday and a Thursday, based on their phonics stage. Please return your child’s book on these days. Please listen to your child read for 10 minutes each night and record this in their reading record. Reading is the most powerful tool so please do as much as you can to support us at home.
The reading of a book is important, but understanding what they have read is just as vital to their reading development. Ask your child questions based on who, what, where, when, why and how? Ask your child to identify the main character and tell you about them. Then they could write them down. You could also discuss if the book is a fiction book or a non fiction book.
Spelling Bee
Don’t forget that the children can access SirLinkAlot too, which will help with spellings. This is used in class and the children do enjoy it!
