We would have just started studying Rocks as our science topic.

Task 1: Your challenge this week is to identify some rocks in your garden and your home. See if you can find what different things are made from.

Use this toolkit to identify rocks in different parts of the country!

Task 2: I wonder if rocks absorb water?

See if you can collect some different rocks on your daily walk or in your garden. Put them in a job of water (make sure you measure how much water you have put in). The next day take the rock out and see how much water the rock has absorbed?

You could then research why this has happened.

Task 3: What is a soil and what is it made of?

Collect soil samples from different places e.g. your garden, a park, another outdoor space. Add water to the soil samples and see what happens when the soils separate. Describe what happened you could do this in a video, poster, paragrah.

Task 4: I wonder how a fossil is created?

Watch this video

Then see if you can write and draw matching pictures for fossilisation.

Task 5: I wonder who Mary Anning was?

Research Mary Anning and see what you can discover!

I'd loved to hear all of your ideas, I will try and upload the work I receive.

Task 6: I wonder if all rocks have the same strength?

See if you can investigate this question and let me know the results!

Task 7: I wonder what different rocks look like?

Imagine you have discovered your own rock

Tell me...

- what it looks like

- it's strength

- if it absorbs water

- what it is useful for

Chester Zoo are doing lots of live tours of their zoo and feeding time! Email what you can find!

Task 1: Our topic lessons would be all about Volcanoes. Have a look at a world map and see if you can research where different volcanoes are around the world. Have any erupted recently? Which are the biggest volcanoes? Which are the oldest Volcanoes?

Task 2: Watch the following video of a volcano erupting

See if you can then create a warning poster for people who are around a volcano and may be in danger!

Task 3: I wonder what layers there in a volcano? See if you can research the layers of a volcano. Try and draw a volcano and label it.

Task 4: I wonder where in the world there are volcanoes?

See if you can research where there are active and dormant volcanoes. Then try and plot these on a map.

Task 5: I wonder what happened during the volcanic eruption in Pompeii?

Research the volcanic eruption and present your findings in a poster/ leaflet or another creative way!

Task 6: I wonder if any volcanoes have erupted recently?

See if you can investigate recent volcano eruptions and make a newspaper report about this.

Task 7: I wonder what an errupting volcano looks like?

See if you can make a volcano at home. Can you make it errupt?

Anything you send me I will try and upload to our work from home slideshow! Please send your pictures and ideas to
